IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS

Question Description

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Two health issues that are expected to become a concern in the next 5-10 years are Immunization and Substance Abuse. Immunization is the process of taking vaccines which contains a sample of the disease and it is injected into the body, which makes the body immune or resistance to the infectious disease. Immunization have proven to create immunity to diseases and have helped to keep communities safe and healthy. However, currently in society, there is a movement against vaccination and immunization, because it is believed that immunization causes birth defect and development. Therefore, more children are vaccine free; the issue with this is, if more people become vaccine free, then that means there is more host available to hold diseases and it just need one outbreak for an epidemic or pandemic to start. For instance, the 2009 H1N1 pandemic also known as the Swine flu. This was a devasting pandemic that originated in the U.S. and became widespread, killing approximately 151,700-575,400 people worldwide within a small-time frame (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2019). It was thanks to the nasal-spray vaccine that was created and public health organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that this pandemic was controlled, and prevention methods were created to prevent and control further widespread (CDC, 2019).

Substance abuse is another uprising issue, especially with the music industry promoting its use as something cool to do. Prescription drugs are being used as a get high entity, rather than to treat the illness it was intended for. Many celebrities have fallen victim to the uprising of substance abuse such as, Percocet and drinking codeine-based cough syrup mixed with other entities. Based on the National Institute on Drug data, more than 130 people within the U.S dies from overdosing on opioids (prescription drugs, pain relivers and fentanyl) everyday, where 47,000 Americans overdosed in 2017. Additionally, based on the CDC data, opioid overdose have increased approximately to 30% from July 2016 to September 2017. Also, although substance abuse is contributing to a high mortality rate, it is creating a financial burden on the economic where, opioid misuse cost the U.S $78.5 billion a year (healthcare cost, addiction treatment and criminal justice involvement). Nevertheless, the reason why Substance abuse is becoming a public health crisis is because of the increasing opioid misuse causing overdose, and its relationship to neonatal abstinence syndrome during pregnancy. Along with increased HIV and Hepatitis C rates because of the continuous uses of injection drugs (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019).

For substance abuse, proper education on the effects is needed and proper management laws on the accessibility to opioids needs to be enforced. Also, taking drugs need to stop being enforced as something popular, when it is not and clearly shows to have devasting side effects. Also, improving access to treatments and recovery services like rehabilitation centers. For immunization, I think public health organizations need to research on the vaccines to prove whether or not it causes birth defect and development and distribute their findings to the public. This will clear up any misunderstanding and keep the population safe and health. However, if it is proven that the vaccines create birth defects and development, then they need to take responsibility and fix the issues to prevent such horrid consequences.
